Bastards.

I just saw a commercial for The Seeker: The Dark is Rising on television.

I wish an eternity of frozen boxed pasta lunches and a broken microwave on all involved in this movie!!

  1. I saw that trailer. You know, I didn't even LIKE the books and I'm a general fantasy fan. So I'm not comparing it, even subconsciously, to the source material. But that looks dreadful even to me.

    Just. Dreadful.

  2. I tried to explain to my family why I turned my back to the screen when the trailer aired before HP & the Order of the Phoenix. They couldn't understand what the big deal was...

  3. My friends saw my jaw drop when the trailer came up, and afterwards one said, "I think I'll wait to read the books until _after_ I see that."

That said, it does have Christopher Eccleston in it...and remember, Christopher Eccleston died for your sins. (And I suspect that by 2010 at the latest, David Tennant will have done so as well. *sniff*)

  4. Hell, its got Swearengen in it. It's still a hack job on the source material...

  5. Just because they've made Will an American, and, apparently, screwed with his entire family dynamic, and in general pissed all over a book that owned a huge chuck of my childhood doesn't mean I won't go see it.

I don't want to go see it, but I probably will anyway.

  6. Yeah, include me out. That movie looks horrible, and seems to have nothing to do with the books as I recall them.

  7. I completely glossed over these books when I was a kid (I was very sick of Chosen One stories and to some degree still am) so I don't have much to compare it to besides the ingrained knowledge of what plots generally look and feel like within Chosen One stories.
Hearing about the vast number of superfluous and what seem like "Because we CAN! NYA HA HA!" changes, I'm already cynical. Watching the trailer has given me a very distinct impression though:

Only a few good animation bits and very boring. Dialogue cheap and boring, acting typical and boring, movie recycled and boring. I don't even need a plot.

  8. Well, I'm ashamed to admit it, but if I hadn't read the series -- the ending of which I totally hated, but never mind -- if I hadn't read the series, I probably never would have read anything by Robert Graves, let alone the Mabinogion. So I guess I owe it a debt.

  9. I would alter the curse to frozen chicken or fish meals, as they would thaw to a much nastier product.
