Why do I still care?

Lisa at Sequentially Speaking has some information about artist changes for DC books:
ART UPDATE FOR GREEN LANTERN #18 AND 19

Please note that GREEN LANTERN #18 (JAN070293) and 19 (FEB070275) will be illustrated by Daniel Acuña (UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS), with covers by regular series artists Ivan Reis and Oclair Albert.
Not that I was planning on buying it (well, okay, I was planning to buy it if, miraculously, issue #18 shipped with all of the fleshy parts of Star Saphire's costume colored in black, blue, purple or white) but I couldn't buy it even if I was buying it with Daniel Acuña on the art.

He's responsible for this.

Yeesh, I don't know why fauxtorealistic artists get work.

  1. I don't care for "realistic" artists either.

It just seems like you can get so much more expression and emotion from representative characters.

Probably has something to do with the Uncanny Valley, but I'm far too lazy to go that in-depth tonight.

  2. You know what would be interesting? If they created "new & improved" next generations of established characters that didn't dress like porn stars and leather fetishists...

  3. Dig the crotch gleam on Phantom Lady. Sheesh.

  4. Dang - I always thought those "How NOT to draw women" were exaggerations.

It doesn't look like it was an attempt at realism so much as it looks like someone who's beginning to learn photoshop strutting his stuff. It doesn't have the style of a pure drawing, and doesn't seem any more real to me to make up for it.

  5. Grosssss.

It's so funny that they are trying so hard to get women to read Supergirl, and yet totally oblivious to the fact that women actually read Green Lantern. Or maybe they do know and their plan is to ruin Green Lantern for us so we'll all go running to Supergirl.

  6. Oh, I can just see it now: "Dammit, I've had it with this pointless flesh parade! I'm going to go read Supergirl!"

Talk about your injury to the eye motif...

  7. I continue to be baffled by how /shiny/ she is on that page.

And wow, yeah, otherwise avoiding Acuna, yerk.
