I just saw a reprint of The Dark is Rising in the bookstore. It said "Now a major motion picture: the Seeker" in an ugly yellow band at the bottom.
You'd think, after changing so damned much to make the movie they'd figure they're shooting themselves in the foot by selling the book to remind everyone how different it was.
What's up with the name change anyway? When I saw the preview this summer before whatever movie it was in front of the name was clearly "The Dark Is Rising". The next time I saw the preview it was called "The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising". The last preview I saw just called it "The Seeker".

I'll take whatever I can get, really. I've been to every bookstore in the city with a wide range of titles in English, as well as the library, and I couldn't find it. This way, there's a chance they'll have the book available here in Bergen, Norway as well.

I wonder the same thing every time I see Nicole Kidman's face on the cover of my copy of "The Stepford Wives." Or "Now a Major Motion Picture" on my copy of "V for Vendetta."
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should just do a novelization of whatever story they have left. Like they did a novelization with (no kidding) Bram Stoker's Dracula.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, they also came out with reprints for the whole series which say nothing more about the movie than a simple little seal.
ReplyDeleteHowever, they are really ugly covers, unlike recent the reprints for A Wrinkle in Time and The Black Cauldron series. So I still don't know what they were thinking.

Heh.
While Spiderwick looks like it should be really good and follow the original story, they are - as they always do with any movie whose audience includes kids under age 10 - coming out with cheap picture books and easy readers based on the movie. The easy readers are especially funny in this case, seeing as how the books aren't much harder than the easy chapter books that will be coming out.
