Robert Downey Jr to play Sherlock Holmes for Guy Ritchie

  1. I don't know. I have a hard time picturing Holmes without a Brit accent. Has anyone seen Downey playing a Brit? I know he did that period costume drama where he was the Royal Physician, but I never saw that...

  2. I can say maybe until the third name comes up. I haven't heard anything good about Ritchie since his marriage.

  3. Downey could be good as Holmes, though Holmes should be more reserved and controlled than Downey usually is. However, the choice for Watson is just as important.

  4. Huh. He's not who I would have thought of for Holmes, but I'm OK with that :)

  5. You're kidding, right? You've never seen Downey playing a Brit? Check out his one and only Oscar nominated performance...

  6. Koosbing,

Holmes reserved and controlled? Have you read the books? Sometimes he's reserved and controlled, often he's a manic nutter. For a non-britt (and perhaps a bit short) Downey's about as good casting as I can think of at the moment. Maybe David Tennant (but he shouldn't get to hog all the `I'm so smart' roles in England I guess.)
