Happy Independance Day!

What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with vintage war propaganda? Above is the last panel of All-Star Comics #16 -- a single-issue World War II Propaganda Extravaganza from 1943.

I've been trying to get a run of that title, for a lil while, now.

    No love.

  2. I think it's cool that a 40's era comic had black people who weren't monkeys.

    What year was this?

Sandi -- Actually, I suspect that guy is of Italian ancestry, but that's because I'm from a coal mining area with a large Italian-American population.

Jenn -- They finally up and sent you back to Canada, huh?

  5. I'm a softy for American propaganda. Silly, for sure, but I guess I have a weird perspective. With respect to other countries, I love America. That being said, I don't like what is currently going on with our country and its closed-mindedness. oh well. this picture is pretty funny though. is that "W" next to the man with the yellow hat? lol

  6. (*Pbblltt* Next Canada Day I'm coming over to your blog and making mountie jokes.)

And you've hit upon the beauty of Golden Age art -- it's just shaky enough that we can project at some characters.

  7. Sagejester -- Actually, we'd be in much better straights right now if certain citizens were to internalize the above propaganda message.

  8. I agree. I am working on a web comic that is about essentially that American spirit, equality, liberty and pride in an super-heroic idealistic sense. I procrastenate lots though, so I fear it will be awhile before I get it off the ground. :(

  9. Well, when you do eventually get it off the ground -- Link me. I've got a major patriotic streak in me no matter who's in office.
