You have a better idea?

I was forming ideas for a post on Green Lantern/Green Arrow #82 when I noticed something unusual. Well, something unusual when you're used to modern DC comics. Something missing even from reprinted collections.

It was a letters page.

I couldn't resist a peek, so I glanced at a few of the letters. One letter, from a man who hated everything except for the art, stood out to me.

What really bothers me was how GL stopped the big fight by saying, "Nothing will be settled like THIS!" and then started slugging it out with Green Arrow.

There may be something wrong with me, but I honestly can't think of a better way to stop a conflict than by taking out Ollie Queen.

  1. You know, "everything but the art" in a comic is, maybe, half. Or less. You know, just the writing. I wish there were more reviewers, especially nowadays, who criticize writing and praise art.

  2. Ah, the late, lamented lettercol. I miss them. I've had a number of LoCs published. I was just hitting my letter hack stride and they yanked the lettercols out from under me.

    I miss 'em.

  3. Hey Ragnell,

Have you seen the hostile discussion of "Sexual harrassment in the comic industry" getting shot down over at the "Comics Should Be Good" blog? Read through the comments, and it's a little demoralizing...

  4. It's always fun to read the old letter columns, especially when you discover a letter by a fan-turned-pro. Interesting to read their comments and compare them to what they did later, as a comics creator.

  5. It's interesting to see people constantly mock Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, particularly when their icon is some sort of Fat-Cat Pandering Space Fascist!

If you don't like Green Arrow, you have no place in my indignant, pompous, socialist utopia.
