"Iron my shirt" might be an appopriate response to that first comment. Not to stir the pot or anything.

Saying, "It's just a comic book" about any subject really debases the medium, and I lose a lot of respect for anyone who uses it.

Here's what I don't get. If people are so dismissive of the medium, what are they doing commenting on a comic blook blog in the first place?

Exactly -- the tacit assumption in all discussions of art (be it high or low) is that, for whatever reason, the art is worth discussing. Comic books may well be the least important thing in the world, but either take them seriously enough to discuss, or shut the hell up. Can't have it both ways.

Because if they are escapist fantasies then they shouldn't be racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic and if they are any of those things then they AREN'T an escape from the real world for a lot of readers and ARRRRRRRGH! How can a comment be so perfectly ironic? How does he do it?!

I think ppl like this deserve a prize for helping explain things to those who learn best by practical examples :)

And I share Nenena's argh :( As if having more representation of ppl of different sexualities, gender identities, ethnicities, etc.. and having different beauty standards and everything else mentioned would be "harsh reality" cuz y'know, all this stuff is just "harsh" and we all know we want to get away from this stuff. xD e_e
