I was feeling open-minded and relaxed this week, so I let Kalinara talk me into watching a show she recommended. An old British show called Sapphire and Steel. And now I'm freaking addicted. I'll probably have to track down the radio recordings too.
Damn her!
(Steel is freaking awesome, though.)
You should listen to me more often, for I am always right. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I caught part of it on SciFi. But maybe not. I do remember Ilsa the She-Wolf, the British show about the female Werewolf/occult investigator...
ReplyDeleteThat show sounds like it'd be so bad it's awesome. (Whereas S&S on the other hand is just simply awesome. :-P)
ReplyDeleteOh and the audio recordings are available at: Big Finish. Dunno how good they are though. I've avoided trying them myself, so far, on account of being way too attached to the original cast. They're rumored to be very good though. :-)
Sapphire and Steel is indeed an awesome show. I remember being terrified by some of those shows as a child (the faceless man being especially frightening - and still pretty creepy when I saw it again last year)
ReplyDeleteWonderfully atmospheric show.
I can't imagine the long format of the stories (6 episodes to tell a single tale) making it far on TV these days.
That way madness lies. I'm always coming into the living room just as Robin pops in a DVD of one of his favorite old British shows, and I usually reverse my steps but quick or I'll get caught up into it. Those Brits, they make the good television.
ReplyDeleteSapphire & Steel creator PJ Hammond has been doing some writing for Torchwood lately. He's written the "evil fairies" and "evil carnies" episodes. Just in case you need another show to get fanatical over.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how these things work out. She did the same thing to me with Sandy, Obsidian and the Shade.
ReplyDeleteIt gets to be expensive. But oh-so satisfying.
You know, I've yet to see any of that. I might have to fix that some day.
ReplyDeleteLurker: She-Wolf of London. I think Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS is entirely different thing.
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to pump up Kalinara's ego any bigger than it already is, but she pretty much nailed it with S&S.
ReplyDeleteI think the evil fairies episode of Torchwood may be my favorite. Which is probably weird.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely the most terrifying so far.
ReplyDeleteShe did the same thing to me, Ragnell...
ReplyDeleteLurker & Slee, I believe it is She-Wolf of London you are thinking of, but I'd like to point out that this was an American show that was just set in London.
ReplyDeleteWhich as you can imagine made it hilarious watching in the UK for all the stuff they got wrong.
The Big Finish audio dramas star David Warner as Steel, who is excellent, but the stories are of variable quality.
