Proof DC pays attention to complaining fans...

...and tries to get money off of them without giving them exactly what they want. From the January Solicits:
JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL HC
Written by Keith Giffen & J.M. DeMatteis
Cover by Maguire & Austin
Art by Kevin Maguire, Terry Austin and Al Gordon
A new hardcover collecting the classic JUSTICE LEAGUE #1-6 and JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #7 from the late 1980s! Can an unlikely new Justice League line-up work as a unit to stop terrorists at the U.N., a brigade of Rocket Reds, the Royal Flush Gang, and other threats — or will they succumb to in-fighting and bad jokes?
Advance-solicited; in stores March 12 • FC, 192 pg, $24.99 US
A hardcover.

As a Green Lantern fan who bought so many Hal Jordan flashback stories, this really made me laugh. The editors may change, but the business never actually does.

(Thanks for catching this one Matt.)

  1. *sigh*

I already own this. Its just a repackaging of "A New Beginning". How about some of the Giffen issues I don't have DC? Or maybe from his LSH years? I keep hearing about the awesomeness of "The Great Darkness Saga". Hows about making it so I can get that?

  2. Argh! Hardcover collection of the first six issues? Of a series that ended in the early 90s? $25???

I love this stuff, but that's just too much. Are there really going to be people paying $25 for a hardcover collection of JLI?

I would rather have seen a Showcase volume. Or cheaper trades. This just means that when they don't sell enough copies, they can say "the demand isn't there" and not finish the collection. I've already bought the first 12 issues of the series multiple times (individual issues and again in trade collection) - what are the odds that I'm ever going to see the next 12 issues on my bookcase?

  3. This IS a great book, and I suppose that it is nice that it is getting some attention, but wouldn't it be even better if they brought out some collections of the REST of the issues?

There were some really fabulous and funny episodes, with the whole Bialya stuff, Beetle's brainwashing, the introduction of Fire and Ice, and so on and so on.
Heck, the Guy and Ice date at the Ice Capades alone is gold.

C'mon DC, you can do better.

  4. Rats -- New Beginning is the Justice League International trade that I could find. Here's hoping that they follow this with a hardcover of The Gospel of Maxwell Lord -- now there's a hard to find volume!

  5. If this hardcover were 12 issues, I might have some faith that the rest of the JLI run might be collected in the same format someday -- that DC might, just might, do another 7 or 8 hardcovers. But when they've set up a situation where it would take at least 10 to collect JLI and 6 to collect JLE? Shyeeah, right.
