Countdown 29

Oh thank you. That character has been treading on my nerves since he was introduced.

Now, can anyone tell me what the fucking point of his existence was?

  1. Y'know, before looking around to find out who died, I had this irrational hope that Jason Todd was finally dead again.

  2. You mean "The Redundancy"? I guess the point of his existence was to explain why the Monitors wanted Duela Dent whacked.

  3. I didn't get my issue yet due to Canadian holiday, but I can only assume you are talking about the Jokester, which is dissapointing becuase I liked him. (Either that or you are talking about Jimmy Olsen, if so I would whip up some potent NERDRAGE! at dc)

  4. Michael -- What makes you sure its not Jason, the Karate Kid, or Bob the Monitor?

Really, you can only be certain I didn't mean Kyle.

  5. True, although I'd expect if it was Jason there would be a much larger celebratory post. With streamers.

  6. Well, I think DC is positioning each earth as its own franchise, which is why were getting series/one-shots about Captain Carrot, Lord Havok, Red and I'm sure 'Mazing Man is up next. Jokester is a way of advertising the earth to readers- "Did you like the Jokester? Write in for more Crime Society comics!"

Did Manuel Garcia and Mark McKenna get a weekend to draw that comic? Because they made no attempt to distinguish Bob from the mean monitor, and I didn't know who was who until Jokester got killed.

  7. Aww, I liked Jokester.

What was his point? He needs a point? He's a character some people liked, that's the only point he needs.

I just don't get why they introduced all those plot hooks in his one-shot when they killed him off so quickly like this.

  8. I gave up on Countdown a while ago now - it’s a painful read and an unnecessary book.

I was hoping when I read your entry that Jason Todd had gotten zapped again correcting the earlier mistake of bringing him back.

  9. I had the exact same reaction you did, but I was reading Black Canary/ Green Arrow #1, not Countdown 29.

  10. I feel cheated. I bought the Search for Ray Palmer story primarily because the Jokester was in it and looked kind of interesting (and Newsarama had a nice preview). And now he's dead a week later? Meh.

  11. Yeah, I totally feel like I wasted that 3.99 on the Jokester's origin.

  12. I feel like I got cheated. This may sound dumb, but I was hoping to hear Earth 3's Crime Society Origin. Hell, I was hoping to hear all about the Crime Syndicate again with it's {Bad Guys are Good Guys here} Spiel. I miss the crazy Ultraman from Morrison and Busiek's runs... sigh...

  13. Wait. Should we all know better? Especially on this week?

  14. I don't know. Maybe. I hate the character, but his death was so pointless and he served such little purpose in life that it would be nice if this was a trick and he'll show up later. The whole thing seems senseless otherwise.

But, this is Countdown after all...
