That's a cute coincidence.

I believe Duck Tales wasn't until the 90s and this issue of Green Lantern was in the mid-80s (right after Crisis). Unless, of course, the triplets joined the Boy Scouts knockoff early on in Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck and it wasn't a cartoon invention. Maybe some Disney scholar can help me out there.

Either way, its too bad that book didn't give him tips on crossing the street safely.

  1. The Jr. Woodchuck stuff was from the comics originally IIRC...

  2. Wiki says '51; I knew it was a Carl Barks gig but didn't know when. I also didn't know about the Junior Chickadees, which were the Girl Scout version!

  3. Wiki also says Duck Tales, the TV show, premiered Sept. 18, 1987. That was my freshman year in college, and the guys across the hall in my dorm would watch it religiously.

    Wiki also sez:

Keen-eyed fans have noted an obvious correspondence between the names "Ch'p" and "D'll" and the Disney characters Chip & Dale. This is reinforced by Ch'p's girlfriend being named M'nn'e, similar to Minnie Mouse. Ch'p's nemesis Doctor Ub'x, was named after Disney animator Ub Iwerks.

Ch'p first appeared in 1982, originally drawn by Don Newton, and got cute-ified around '85 or '86 (I think) at the hands of Joe Staton.

This is why I love the Green Lantern Corps.

  4. Yeah, the Junior Woodchucks are old-school comics. Most of the DuckTales shtick was developed in the comics - they just moved the kids into Scrooge's house and replaced Donald with Launchpad.

  5. I always thought Dr. Ub'x was an odd name, but never knew the origin. Thanks, Tom!

I totally missed that. I feel stupid.

Then again, I'm the guy who had to have the pun inherent in the name "Ms. Tree" after a decade.

  8. The comics version of the Junior Woodchucks, and particularly H, D, and L, could hold their own with the GLC.

  9. Awww...Ch'p! So adorable, so fuzzy...so doomed. Hal certainly thought so, when John Stewart told him about what happened to Ch'p, Hal's response was..."Can't believe this. I mean, Ch'p! He was always so...cute." (Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #2)

Way to go Hal! Showing off your sensitivity once again.
