I lived for it. Interestingly enough, I stopped reading it after AoA as well. I knew the title really started to suck, but I didn't find out how bad it was until last year when I picked up some of the last back issues at Wizard World for cheap. Such utter disappointment. I'm still sad about it.100LittleDollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08149407280133225570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538843.post-1145244983150898312006-04-16T23:36:00.000-04:002006-04-16T23:36:00.000-04:00I used to totally have Jubilee's exact slippers.I used to totally have Jubilee's exact slippers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538843.post-1145227695954992142006-04-16T18:48:00.000-04:002006-04-16T18:48:00.000-04:00I'm actually struck by the power of all the women ...I'm actually struck by the power of all the women in the pictures you've presented (wel, except for Penance, but it's more mysterious to be lying down). The skin-ripper especially reminded me of Rosie the Riveter.

I also think it's interesting how de-emphasized the characters' sexual organs are. They tend to wear baggy clothes and the focus of the panels are on different parts (faces, arms, legs). It sort of makes me wonder if those kinds of depictions were as thought out as the gender makeup and ethnic diversity of the characters.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538843.post-1145174532711809102006-04-16T04:02:00.000-04:002006-04-16T04:02:00.000-04:00What they actually did with Monet REALLY sucked.Bu...What they actually did with Monet REALLY sucked.

But I loved the book, despite the kiddie plots. :)ComicBookGoddesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01972671566599447047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538843.post-1145056344904840832006-04-14T19:12:00.000-04:002006-04-14T19:12:00.000-04:00I really got into this series when it first came o...I really got into this series when it first came out. Great Bachalo art. I even got the limited ashcan when that came out too. The line up was great also, and I agree, Penance was cool and very enigmatic.I. N. J. Every so often an X-franchise totally rises above the dross, and I can see how a cool skin-ripping panel can hook you on comics for life.

For me, it was the Composite Superman beating the snot out of Superman, Batman and Robin.

Few other mediums have the potential to kick so much butt, which is why I'm always bugged when people insist comics need to grow up to achieve legitimacy.

A lot of great children's literature transcends the ages, i.e. C.S. Lewis and Grimm Fairy Tales. Why can't Silver Age Superman or Generation X be allowed to do the same?Marc Burkhardthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06949686463975572297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16538843.post-1145028476868154672006-04-14T11:27:00.000-04:002006-04-14T11:27:00.000-04:00That is one kickass skin-ripping panel!Interesting...That is one kickass skin-ripping panel!

Interestingly, Monet doesn't appear to be black in X-Factor nowadays. I think that if everyone who still "seriously" reads comics into their adulthood can trace the habit back to a single moment in one of their first comics that spoke to them and continues to define how they read them to this day, whether it's a black female Superman, a woman ripping off her own skin or, to crank the Aweso-Meter all the way up to eleven, Batman throwing a car battery.

It's what makes them so fun to talk about, I think, especially when I think about all the people who don't read comics, and wonder if it's just that they never got the one where something senses-shattering happened.

Also: Jubilee's slippers are totally ill.Chris Simshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320487883818314339noreply@blogger.com
